Soviets Look to set Franchise Record with 5-0 Start

Never before in the history of the Red Army has a team began the season 5-0. That could change tonight. At 8 pm this evening, the Soviets lace up their skates to take on their old rival, the Shockers, in a heated Thursday night showdown.

"It would definitely be cool," Captain Steve Hand said when asked about starting 5-0. "But you can't get caught up the standings, just focus on the game. We are playing a team we haven't played this season yet, so we're 0-0 versus them."

Added Hand, "But we are number one in the power rankings, and they're like... number five... so that counts."

Forward Pat King was also quick to downplay the significance of a 5-0 start.

"The seasons we won the championship, we were fourth place, fifth place, and sixth place I think. We may have been second place once. But it's all about getting hot. We need to continually get better." King said. "That being said, I worked out last night pretty hard, so don't expect much. Seriously, I can't move my arms."

Defeating the Shockers will be no mean feat tonight, as the Soviets will be without their goaltender, and arguably best player so far this season, Kevin Durkin. Durkin, who works at a zoo, has to prep the ungulates for breeding. When asked how much work goes into said prepping, Durkin simply shook his head at reporters, and in between drags of his cigarette, said, "The worst are the rhinos. They maintain eye contact."

The lines combinations appear to be the same as last game, but with Mike D'Ignazio listed as questionable with "illness/work", they are subject to change.

(NOTE: Ungulates are hoofed mammals)
